Hendren Scores First Century Against Tourists.

ROBINSON'S BRILLIANT CRICKET.

Glamorgan's First Success.

The mid-week programme in the county championship pro- vided some interesting cricket. Rain seems to have neglected cricket grounds this week, so that six out of the eight first-class matches were brought to a definite conclusion.

Middlesex provided the Australians with their sixth victory. notwithstanding a gallant effort by Hendren in scoring the first century against the Australian attack. The previous best score was 92 set up by K. S. Duleepsinhji for the M.C.C. at Lord's. Yorkshire defeated Hampshire by a big margin, as did also Kent against Essex. Glamorgan surprised Derby, by winning an exciting match by 29

runs.

This had the effect of regaining the confidence of the depositors and by the time banking business usually closes at 3 p.m., the run had subsided, there were still a few panicky clients, mostly small depositors, who wished to with- draw their money.

These were puid without comment by the Bank officials who were unperturbed throughout what must be a very unpleasant situation.
