Woman Parts with Her Jewellery.
TEMPTING PROPOSAL.
The story of how a Chinese woman was duped by two men was told to the Police yesterday. The victim was Wong Mun-ying, of Temple Street, Yaumati.
According to her story, she went to the Empress Hotel with two men. They had titin in room 117 at the hotel and stayed until about 3.15 p.m., when one man confided to her that he was a dealer in oplum.
He had a deal to put through within the next quarter of an hour which would bring him a large margin of profit. However, he did not have enough money, and there was no time left to go to the bank before keeping his op "ointment. Would she let him have the loan of her jewellery? He promised to return the valu- ables to her within a short time, together with a percentage of the profit he was to make. The girl could wait for him at the hotel.
The proposal was a tempting one, particularly where the girl was to get a percentage of the profits, so she parted with all her jewellery, worth $186. The man took the trinkets and departed in the company of his comrade. The girl waited at the hotel until 7. p.in, and when the two men did not return she became suspicious- and took her trouble to the Police.
Later.
Miss Amy Johnson said that she mistook the playing fields at Insein for Rangoon race course and made a perfect landing, but the machine while taxi-ing, ran into a ditch and was slightly dam aged at the wings, wheels and propeller. She hopes to take off "again" to-morrow."Reuter
