MODEL REGIMENTS. The interesting ceremonies and procession con- nected with the trooping of the colours on the Horse Guards Parade on the pccasion of the King's Birthday have been produced with model soldiers, correct to the smallest details by a Lieutenant of Marines who intends to tour the country exhibiting the reproduction, which has taken two years to complete.

There are between 10,000 and 11,000 modal soldiers and Civilians each three inches high, true to colours in eight tableaux, Music le provided by an electric gramophone and loud speakers. → (Sport and General),

FIGHTING THE LOCUSTS.--The locusts constitute, one of the greatest dangers for agriculture in the north of Africa. Orders have been issued by the Government in those regions of Morocco and Algeria under the ruic of France, for à strenuous campaiga against these insects. This will take place while the locusts are still in a state of torpor owing to the chilliness of the night and will cease about an hour after the sun rises.---(Sport and General).

LAUNCH OF A DESTROYER. — H.M.S. "Acheron" (1,330 tons), the inst of the eight destroyers authorised under the Navy estimates for 1927- 28, was launched at Messrs. Thornycroft's yard at Woolston, Southampton, by the Hon. Lady Persona on March 18. The vessel is the first destroyer to be fitted with machinery designed to make use of high-pressure steam, and

her speed is estimated at 35 knots-(Sport and General).
