Choke Fliter

In the choke filter arrangement the anode cireult is split into two alternative paths, one consisting of a low frequency choke, that is to sny, a coil of wire wound on an iron core, and the other of the speaker in series with a condenser.

The iron-cored choke, while per-

mitting the steady direct current to pass through its windings, difèrs an obstacle to the passage of the speech current. The condenser, on the other hand, will pass the varying current impulses but not the steady direct current.

It may be of service to indicate the method of adding choke filter to a set not so fitted. The only addi tional parts

required are a low frequency choks of which several reliable makes are on the market, and a fixed condenser of 2 mfd. capacity.

The Speaker leads should first be disconnected from the speaker terminals of the receiver.

Next, the low frequency choke should be connected to the speaker terminals of the set, and one terminal of the condenser connected to the terminal marked LS. The speaker should now be connected between the other terminal of the condenser and the L.T.-terminal.

The advantages of a filter circuit are four-fold. In the first place

The experimental programme was begun by an official, Mr. J. L. Baird, inventor of the televisor. His features were clearly seen and lips moved as his voice was heard from the loud speaker,

He was then succeeded by Sir Ambrose Fleming, the inventor of the thermionic valve, which made wireless in the home possible.

An address by Lord Ampthill, songa by two well-known artistes, and a talk by the author of "Journey's end,” all of whom were clearly seen and heard, followed.—
