GENEROUS ACT

Master's Lenience to His Servant

THEFT OF $30

A Chinese foki, who admitted stealing $30 out of a total of $55 from his master, at a firewood shop in Reclamation Street, was at the Kowloon Magistracy this morning sentenced to six weeks hard

Inbour.

Det.-Sergeant Fowlle stated that the master reported that a person, by means of a duplicate key, entered the shop and stole the money.

He, however, suspected the defendant, who was later arrested.

The Magistrato at first sentenced

the man

to three months' hard labour, but the master came tor- ward to say that the defendant's people had promised to refund some of the money.

In view of that he would ask for leniency.

Mr. Whyte-Smith pointed out to the defendant that what the master had just done was a very generous act, and he would reduce his son- tence by half, namely, six weeks' hard labour.
