Canton. Yesterday. Mr. A. E. Polozsky, n Pele, nged 48, who started in 1921. from his native home to tour the world on foot, arrived at Canton yesterday. Up to the present, he has already journeyed through Finland, France, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Holland, Soviet Russia, China, Mongolia, Korea, Japan. and other countries, a distance of 59,130 miles.

After passing through Fu kien, Chew-on, Swatow, Shan-

me,

Shek-loon, Hai-fung,

and Tung-koon, Mr. Polozsky ap peared upon his arrival before the authorities and said that he would leave in a few days for the other southern provinces and thence to Tibet and India and back to Poland, his world tour to be completed by the end of the year 1932.

At the beginning of his journey, he was accompanied by another Pole, who was unfortunately killed while en route from Fentien to Korea. On the present journey, when he was coming from Pok-loh to Walchow, he was robbed of all of his belongings, which greatly handleapped him on his way to Canton.-Canton News Agency.

Tokyo, Yesterday. Reports have been published in Lon

from Japan, emanating from don sources other than Reuter's Agency, de- claring that the American proposals at the Naval Conference are unacceptable to the Japanese Government.

Special enquiries have been made and the reports cannot be confirmed. It is considered highly improbable that there is any truth in them.

Before crossing the Mahi, Gandhi addressed the villagers of Kankapur, and said, "This will be the last religious pilgrimage in my life, and I have undertaken it on foot according to tradition." While there appears to be a grow- ing belief that Japan will be unable to accept the American proposals without some modification, Foreign Office spokesman flatly denies that either the Government or any Government de- partment has made any decision yet.

It is expected that the Cabinet will attempt to reach a decision on March 23, but it is possible that a reply will not be ready until next week.

London, Yesterday.

M. Briand has left for Paris. He was cheerful, and remarked: "It is useless sitting in my hotel watching the weather from the window. I shall, return when there is some work for me to do."

He declined to combat on the pros pect of the conference.

The French spokesman, interviewed | by Reuter, explained that M. Briand's return to Paris to-day was due to the fact that he was requested to appear before the Chamber on the Committee of Foreign Affairs. It in nowise im- plies the breaking up of the conference, The spokesman drew attention to two outstanding questions. firstly the Franco-Italian one, which can only be settled by putting aside the quration of parity and producing something de- finite; secondly, the figures between France and Britain, which can only be modified if a pact for better organisa- tion of peace in Europa can be develop- ed. He added that M. M. Tardieu and Briand intend to return soon, but whe- ther their movements will be accelerated or retarded will depend on developments

in London.

He concluded: "Four Powers have
