Nine goals were scored in the St. Sunday Herald International Cup Joseph's Eastern game. Salleh very early in the match put his side ahead for Omar, the "Sainta" keep- er, to assist in the second. Sabhan neatly caught a rebound to put Eastern three up. The "Saints" 1 penalty. were then awarded Castilho being successful from the

[By "Roamer"] What a surprise! Lowly Recreio run out good winners against the Somersets by the odd goal in three, and I now despair of the "Sets" pulling off the Championship this paper value season. Taking their by comparing their records this season, ie, twenty points bagged in fourteen games as against Recreia's five only in thirteen, coupled with the fact that A. V. Cosano was ab- Rent, it looked to be a comfortable afternoon for the Soldiers, but alas was it?

In the first minute Recreio gave their opponents a fright when Ward got very close but they soon recovered and Baker gave Beltran the opportunity to display his ability between the posts-a good shot and a good save. With Silva-Netto and Sousa smashing up attacks it was hard work for the "Sets" front line to get within reasonable shooting distance and when they did break through Beltras in tip top form dealt with the best that Baker, Butcher and Rayson could give."

best shot of the game. Eastern were again held for a time until Sousa scored the "Saints" third. The visitors' sixth and last came from Leonard.

The "Gunners" luckily opened i their account against South Ching "B" by the aid of Taylor from a free klek just outside the area for Wai Sze-chuen to even up before the interval. A change in places be- tween Reed and Taylor was fruit- ful as the latter scored his second and Trice made the victory secure. In the closing minutes.

The University were no match for South China "A" for the "A" eleven overran them and should have been more than one up (Yip Koon-ning) at the interval, for their opponents were two men short. After the reine. Counter, R.M. sumption Yip Koon-ning, Chan Yul P.O. Parsons tin and Ng Po-ku added further goals and Kho netted the Varsity's

A trifle against the run of the play Ward crowned the splendid move ment of B. Gosano by a good drive to beat Hall Excitement was pro-one and only in the last minute. mised for in the next minute Knapp, accepting the ball from Rayson, flashed it passed Beltrao. Up to that time the elevens deserved to be on terms and this was proved by the ding dong struggle that followed. Then, with B. Gosano being allow ed too much freedom the "Sets" got into arrpara again when Rocha found the net after Gosane had paved the way. Upon resuming Huish backed up his shaky partner well and did good work in dealing with three most dangerous thrusts. Hope for the "Sets" to pull the game out of the fire went when Knapp, with two chances, failed to register from the spot but he was not altogether to blame for that failure for Beltrao effected a bril- liant save from the second kick, but the Recreio's keeper was very lucky when he got his foot to the ball from Butcher.

Kowloon turned out against the R.A.M.C. with depleted ranks. The noble night put up a plucky display until Dannett received an injury and left

the field. Little wonder that the "Medicals" were two up, both by Iamson, before the interval. The third goal came from Flynn and with Angus in form further success was denied. With Moore also being' injured Kowloon finished with six players.

The second half was blank as far as scoring went and had the Soldier' front line put more zip into their final shots Beltrao would have been beaten at least twice, for two reasonable chances were missed, apart from the spot kick fallure. With the Navy no doubt being awarded the points from Kowloon and every possible chance of them beating the Police at the Stadium the "Sets" cannot now bring off the Championship, but if they can master the Athletic there is a hope for "Runners up" honours, medals for whom are provided if funds permit.

ST. PAUL'S COLLEGE

A RECORD BROKEN

Keen rivalry was seen on the S.C.A.A. ground at Caroline Hill afternoon, when the yesterday annual athletic sports meeting of St. Paul's College was held in ideal weather. The 100 yards re- cord of 10.3/5 secs. put up by Lam Yuk-ying in 1923 was broken by Chan King-chor, who clipped

one-fifth of a second off it.

FLAW IN A RACING PLAY

MR. EDGAR WALLACE DECRIES ALL CRITICS BUT ONE

OTHERWISE PERFECT!

The flaw in "The Calendar," Mr. Edgar Wallace's successful racing play at Wyndham's Theatro, haa been discovered.

There never was a play about the turf that was not so full of technical Inaccuracles as to excite the derl- sion of regular racegoers."

"When one night the chief and the ex-chief stewards were sitting in the front row of the stalls, I quaked,” said Mr. Wallace. "But we passed with flying colours.

"They could not fault the play. their only interest being the big silver cup displayed on the stage in one of the scenes. It is, in point of fact, the Salisbury Cup that was won by Apollo, owned by the late father of the Hon. George Lambton. It was won in 1868, and is a rare example of beautiful British work- manship."

Nevertheless, the racing critics were on the alert for some slip. One well-known trainer saw the play five times, and reluctantly passed it as technically perfect.

Keen-Eyed Handicapper It was left to Mr. Dawkins, the senior handicapper of the Jockoy Club, to discover the fault.

In the first act, the morning of the opening day of Ascot, the young racing man, played by Mr. Owen Nares, looks at the Racing Calendar and reads the acceptances for the Northumberland Plate, which is run a fortnight after Ascot, and lo! the keen-eyed handicapper discovered the faulti

The acceptances for the North- umberland Plate are not published until three days later than the open- ing of Ascot!

"I have kept my guilty secret for a week, but I had to tell somebody," eaid Mr. Wallace. "So for The Calendar is the one play in London that is not seriously affected by the theatrical slump. Heaven knows what will happen now!"
