Violent Speeches
Violent attacks on King Alfonso and industrial disturbances are prevalent in Spain.
A party of unemployed marched to a Madrid factory to urge women workers there to join in a demon- stration, but they were met by the police and turned back.
The procession persisted, how- ever, in demonstrating, and blows were exchanged with the police, who fired into the air. A number of the marchers were wounded and many arrests were made before the crowd dispersed.
At the Sagunto smelting works, near Valencia, some 4,000 men came out on strike and cried. "Long live the Republic!" But it is denied by the Governor of Valencia that the district has declared a republic.
