There were over 50 competitors, including nine teams, and a good crowd gathered to see the men start from opposite the Royal Naval Canteen. Commander Dak er was the official starter, and the course was round Happy Valley and back.
Commodore R. A. S. Hill, at the end of the race, presented the Cup to the captain of the winning team (Lieut. Johnston), and also presented the
members of the team. Lieut. Johnston, and Messrs. Holland, Gilmore. Taylor, Robin- son and Ellis, with medals. A.B. Shawyer received a small replica of the cup.

The first three men home were:-- A.B. Shawyer, 15 mins. 49 seca. (H.M.S. Moth).
Lieut. Freer, 16 mins. 07 secs. (Sirdar).
Licut. Johnston, 16 mins. 08 seca. (Tarantula).
