In the course of a mest interesting lecture on "Broadcasting," given at the Institute of Engineers and Shipbuilders last night, Mr. W. L. The lecturer also outlined the difficulties which confront- ed the "pioneers" in Hong Kong, and after congratulating those in charge of local broadcasting upon the work they had accomplished. he expressed the opinion that a great impetus would be given to broadcasting here if listeners could be reasonably certain pf receiv-which enables a set of this type to possible examination vexations of

months. During 1923 a small transmitter broadcast for a short time from the Kowloon Hotel, but, after this, it was not until 1926 that the now defunct Radio Society commenced broadcasting. This ser-
vice likewise closed down after a few months mainly, I believe, owing to lack of finance. Early in 1928 experiments were carried out from the Lee Theatre under the auspices of the Y.M.C.A. Entertainment Committee but their continuance was rendered unnecessary when the Government started broadcasting from the Peak in 1928. Starting in a small way and in spite of very little encouragement from listeners In the form of licence fees the ser
