In the English Cup competition to-day Aston Villa were beaten at home by Huildersfield, whilst West Hum went down to the Arsenal. The meeting of Notts Forest and Shefeld Wednesday resulted in a draw; as did the tie be- tween Newcastle and Hull City.

Hamilton Academicals sprung a surprise by boating St. Mirren in the Scottish Cup tie at Paisley. Dundee drew with the Hearts, whilst Partick Thistle and Rangers had easy wing over Falkirk and Montrose, respectively.
