Penalty Kick Ruling
WEEK'S GAMES IN A NUTSHELL Amended Programme For To-Morrow
[By "Ronmer"]
In my chat last week I comment ~ed upon the re-taking of McGregor's apot kick in the Senior Round game of the Shield, the Club versus the Navy. It is a knotty problem and one for solution by the governing body only. Last Friday the H.K.F.A. Council considered the facta and by the issue of a ruling on the point it has now cleared the air and incidentally lightened the task of Referees for they now definitely have to allow the kick to be taken and if a goal is scored no infringement by the opposing sido alters the fact. However, let it be fully realized by goalkeepers that the law has still to be enforced and it may lead to custodians getting into hot water if they do not watch themselves. It is to their advant age to stand still in two ways, first. ly in the event of the shot going wide they will not be further penalized and secondly if they do move and the shot misfires they must be cautioned and further penalized and in the event of the kick having to be taken a third time for the same infringement the goalkeeper must be ordered to the dressing room.
With The Seniors The shock of the day came from Sookampoo Inst Saturday, where the K.O.S.B. suffered defeat in their encounter with South China by the only goal scored. This dia- aster coupled with the loss of a point against the Club has definite- ly put the "Scots" out of the run- ning for the Championship. My analysis now requires reconstruc- tion to determine the berth that is likely to be occupied by them at the end of the season. My predic- tion in the Navy-Athletic match proved to be correct, so the Senior Trophy now rests between the Navy and the "Sets" with South China the key for the "Sets". In last Saturday's game South China upset the K.O.S.B. so the "Sets" will have to take their games seriously and must bag three of the four points. If they only get two it will become a question of goal average to decide the Cham- planship, the Athletic still keeping their third place while the K.O.S.B. must be relegated to the fourth position.
Ip Pak-wa was the player to bring disaster to the K.O.S.B., there being no fluke with his stinging drive that had Shears beaten all the way. Had it not been for the good work of Reeves and Martin further goals for South China might have been forthcoming as
the "Scots" were compelled to play on the defensive for more than half
the game.

The game had been a very hard one and the Chinese showed signs of fatigue in the closing minutes for the Navy to leave the field with both points.

In retaliation the Club forced their opponents on the de- fensive but Fletcher was safe until he dangerously dropped the ball for Reid to be stopped by Gough and prevent the equalizer.
Further success came to the "Gunners" a

Kowloon confirmed their Shield Superiority by overcoming the Police to the tune of three goals to one. The home side should have left the field with two only to their credit for in the last minutes of the game Simpson was allowed to get through and score with Police defenders standing by appealing for offside instead of playing to the whistle.
Navy Over the Hurdle The Navy successfully negotiated a difficult hurdle by defeating the Athletic by the odd goal in three. Those two valuable points have put them well in the race for the Senior Trophy. The game opened a little uncertain for, the Senior Service for thoir citade! had a nar. rów escape in the first few minutes, This let off made the Navy realize that they could not afford to take any chances, to settle down gain- ing a two goal lead in the first half
The "Sets" did a good thing for by the aid of Cartwright and themselves by scoring nine at the Peacock, the former player doing expense of the "Saints" for their particularly well in extricating goal average will stand them in himself to score from a difficult good stead if they can keep it at its position after getting round two present standard of over three to opponents.
