FIRST SINCE 1925
[From Our Own Correspondent.} Canton Yesterday.
The American community held the first Washington Dail since 1925 on Saturday, which was A great success, Many of the American members of the Hong Kong com- munity came up and helped to swell the number which were already large as nearly every опе in Canton was present.
The decorations were tastefully
thought out, the hall of the Canton Club (where the ball was held) being decked out in greenery, with myrlade of fairy lights in red, white, and blue.
Mr. Douglas Jenkins, American Consul-General made a welcome speech, which was aptly phrased, as is ever the case when Mr. Jenkin talka.
This marks the closing of the Shameen season, which has been notable for a remarkably successful
from series of Balls,
the St. Andrew's Ball, the Bachelors' Ball, and the St. George's Ball to last
night's gathering. All four have been the best of their kind for the past 10 years.
