In a recent issue of the Shanghai Times, it was stated:-

Trouble has commenced over the distribution of the $150,000 paid by the Shanghai Municipal Caunell as compensation to the victims of the May 30 Incident. The Eastern Times and other Chinese newspapers state that doubt has been raised by a section of the victima regarding the office ex. penses amounting to $1,710, which has been set aside from the total amount.
Further, the payment of $5,000 to two of the victims who were temporarily incapacitated as the result of the shooting, and the payment of $2,000 to the familles of the people killed, is not con- sidered fair.
Left To Association At the time when the cheque for $160,000 was handed by Mr. Stirling Fessenden, Director-General of the Shanghai Municipal Council, to Mr. Yu Ya-ching, one of the. Municipal Councillors and Managing-Director of the San Peh Steam Navigation Co., on behalf of the May 30 vic- tims, it was understood that the distribution of the grant was to take place at the offices of the San Peh S.N. Co. Actually, the respon aibility of the Shanghai Municipal Council Anished with the handing' over of the money, the distribution being left to representatives of the Association of the Relatives of tho May 30 victims. It was anticipated that there would be some disagree- | ment over the apportionment of the money, particularly among the re-! latives of the victims.. According to the Chinese Press, the trouble has commenced.
