An unsuccessful attempt was made to assassinato President Hipolito Irigoyen, of the Argentine Republic, on Christmas Eve. A would-be assassin fired at the President at point blank range as he was en route to the Palace. The attacker was shot dead by detec- tives, who were accompanying the Pre- sident.
