Buenos Aires, Yesterday. Anxiety is felt with regard to the position of the sixteen hundred passengers and crew of the German Hiner Monte Cervantes, which struck a rock near Tierra-del-Fuego, in the Straits of Magellan on Wednes- day.
The Monte Cervantes was badiy holed and the bows' quickly sub- merged.
The passengers and crew were put ashore at Ushula, a prison colony containing the most notori- 048 prisoners from Argentine. Ushain has very few buildings and no proper accommodation for mary people.

The liner Monte Sarmiento is proceeding to Ushala to take off the stranded persons, but she only has accommodation for six-hundred per-
дола.
Pleasant People to Meet! The death penalty is non-existent in Argentina and the worst male- factors are sent to Uahaja. Its in- habitants include the high minded anarchist who, in 1909 bombed and
killed the Chief of the Buenos Aires [police, and another is a German gentleman convicted of killing and quartering one of his friends!

The Monte Cervantes la reported
to be a total loss-Reuter.

LADY SIMON AGAIN ON THE WAR PATH
"TERRIBLE CASES"

The latter might not amount to slavery, but might involve serfdom and sometimes led to cruelty as revolting as anything in the history of slavery.
