WIDESPREAD DAMAGE OF THE GREAT GALE—A hurricane, during which at times the wind reached a velocity of over 30 miles an hour, swept over the British Isles on the right of December 4, leaving havoc in its train. Heavy rain which necom- panied the gale caused farther flooding of the country. This is a view of a house at Islington, London, which collapsed in the gale. "Ten people; eight of whom were children, were in the house at the time-(Sport and General).

GOLDEN BRIDE'S PRIVATE WEDDING-A brilliant society wedding at Knole House, Sevenoaks, Kent, where the Hon. Diana Sackville-West, daughter of Lord Sackville, was married to Lord Romilly. The ceremony was performed by special licence in the private family chapel. The bride wore a robe of gold, with embroidered train to match the dress.
