TWO SELECTED TO SHOW WHAT THEY CAN ACCOMPLISH
WOMEN VICE-CONSULS
+
President Hoover's administra tion is offering encouragement to young women seeking careers in the cousular service as stepping stones to eventual graduation into the ranks of diplomacy. Two young women, Miss Nalle B. Stogadall, of South Bend, Indiana, and Miss Margaret Warner, of Lincoln, Massachusetts, have just received notice of their appointments to two of the most desirable consular positions.
ду
Miss Stogsdall will go to Beirut vice-consul and Miss Warner
Beit ut, which, according to Arable will have a similar post at Geneva.
tradition, is on the orginal site of the Garden of Eden, has always been unusually attractive to Americans secking consular appointments, be-
cause of its delightful climate and Interest in the local custome.
The Geneva position is likewise
looked upon as a prize because of the opportunities to study Inter- national affairs through the sessions of the League of Nations. As American consulur appointments now provide a pathway to eventuai entrance into the Diplomatic Corps, Miss Warner's future career will be especially watshed by women.
Preferred to Men
Both girls had to take the usual examinations, with men applicants. for consular positions. They pass ed with high marks and then were assigned to the special training school at the State Department, after which their appointments to Beirut and Geneva were announced.
Their selection, in preference to men, is due to a desire on the part of the Government to give women chance to show what they can ac- complish under the State Depart ment
How far women will be able to go
