Charge Of Defrauding The Revenue
Yesterday afternoon Mr. T. S. Whyte-Smith heard further evidenco in the case in which two Chinese men and a woman are charged on several counts of defrauding the King's re- venue in connection with dutiable na- tive wine. The woman is described na the licensee of the Tung Cheung
distillery whilst one of the men is said to be the "sze foo" of the distillery. The other man is described as un- employed. The distillery was visited by Mr. H. A. Taylar on October 29. He discovered differences in the mash be ing fermented, soma jars being dusty and covered with cob-webs, whilat others, which, according to the books, had been "put on" at the same time, were absolutely clean. Certain other discoveries were also made which were not in accordance with the books, farther adjournment was given.
