PRESS EXPERTS AT GENEVA

PLAN TO DROP NEWSPAPERS FROM THE AIR

FASTER. EXPRESSES

Rugby, Yesterday,

On Monday next a conference will ment at Geneva under the presidency of Lord Burnham, the British repre: soatative, to discuss the methods of daveloping the circulation of news- papers and periodicals between the various countries of Europe.

The meeting is the result of a con- ference of Press experts held by the League of Nations in 1927. One of the resolutions adopted by that conference was that "International understanding and promotion of peace can 'best en- couraged by the widest possible dis- semination of news," since public opin- fion' is now more interested in the 11

of other nations than ever before.

Among suggestions put forward are the following: - Duties and taxes should be abolished or, at any rate, unified and reduced to a minimum, and customs formalities be simplified: I? | possible, some system should be estab- lished by which newspapers could bo sent direct from the country of origin) to the country of destination. At pre- sent, transit agents have to be employ- ed to discharge customs formalities at each frontier and reforward

newe- paper parcels, and this leads to con- ! niderable expense and delay,

The fastest expresses shaald be avail- able for the transport of newspapers, and air, lines should run in connection with these traina. Air craft pilota should be allowed drop parcels of nowspapers and periodicals at speci fied places instead of having to waste time in landing. Censorship, where it exists, should bo simple and speedy.-- British Wireless Service.
