Sir Ian Hamilton
London, Yesterday. From a defence viewpoint the Singapore Buse is as much a ques- tion for the Army and Air Force as the Navy, declared Sir Jan Hamilton, in a speech in London.
He said that he and Lord French visited Singapore as Inspectors- General. They had to consider inter alia, the proximity of Formasa and South China. There
was no longer harm in saying that
both of them considered the forma tion of a very considerable mobile and local defence force was neces- sary to protect the vast sum ex- pended on the Singapore fortified base, in addition to a full fortress garrison of British tropa.-Reuter.
