First Aerial Court

One of the most practical inventions displayed at the National Safety Council's Annual Con- ference at Chicago, was the collapsible rubber boat shown at the right It is designed to be strapped to the aviator's back much the same as a parachute and if the plane is forced down in the water the pilot simply unfolds the boat and sits in it until rescued. The boat is capable of holding up four men and will remnit, afest for a considerable length of time.

In the upper centre pane!" shown the Navy Department's new rubberised fabric bags which have been per- fected to keep an airplane from sinking should it be forced down over a body of water. These bage act much the same as hydroplane pontoon. Lower centre panol gives a different view of the parachute-boat while an even more complete idea can be gained from the left picture showing exactly how it appears when unfolded.

Left to right are Magistrate Lea Healey, of New York and William Alexander, pilot of the plane which crashed into a Coney Island crowd recently, entering the plane in which the first known aerial court in the world was held. Technical details necessary to Alexander's defence made it advisable for the Judge to go aloft to secure Arat hand information as to just how Alexander landed, so accompanied by lawyers, court stenographers and news- paper men; he held court in the air as Alexander at the controls re-enacted the landing.

The Best "Ten of S.V.C.

The first flight of the German Rucket Plane in which Fritz Von Opel crashed at Frank- fort, proved that this type of aeroplane may be practical in the near future. Successfully leav ing the ground the ship attained a speed of 1% miles in 75 seconds, which would indicate that when miner corrections are made in construction, it can truly live up to its name. Von Opal is scan at the controls just before a previous test was made.
