BUYING SHOES
STRIVE FOR COMFORT WITH FASHION
In buying shoes, forget their colour and design, and study for a time their length, lines and relation to your feet. Strive for comfort along with fashion. 'First of all be sure that your shoes are suth- fciently, long so as not to cramp the muscles and bones of the feet, but not so long that, they will rub and irritate the tender skin of the feat. Also, note the inside line of the shoe. To follow the line of the foot naturally, it should be straight | and not dare inward. Should you have a slender, tapering foat, buy a shoe with that sort of toe, leaving | the square-toes, shart vanp type of shoe for the woman with that type of fout. She, in turn, should leave the painted toes for you.
In the matter of heels, find the height that is best suited to you. Few women feel in their walk and posture that the spike heel is the natural heel for them. The low flat heel is also difficult to wear. For most wonien, the medium height, or Cuban heel is the most comfortable.
pre
If you suffer from weak arches, give the Oxford shoe your ference for street wear, keeping the pump for dress wear only.
Remember, that when the nerves and muscles in your feet are happy. you will be happy, but when they are protesting against being teramped, you are bound to frown
in' sympathy.

A Paris fem is showing a prin cess type of, dress which a nut too extreme to be practical for day- time wear. Often becoming lingerie touches arc added, and handsome leather or head collar and cuffe; A set of white China beads, embroidered to resemble broderie anglaise WAS particularly attractive.
Very smart was a tailleur of bottle velvet shown in this collec tion.
It was cut with a shaped coat and flared skirt, and possessed a matching satin blouse set in a tight- fitting, highwaisted band. Most of this maker's bodices follow this individual line.

FINE TWEED OR TWEED JERSEY DRESS
One of the most notable features of the Paris collections is the tweed dress. The old comfortable ar rangement. of cardigan,,skirt and jersey is gong, except as a costume in which to play games. In its place and many of us will be very sad at ita less-we are offered the dress accompanied by a jacket of seven-eights or three-quarter length. The fabric used for the dress is a fine tweed or tweed jersey, so supple that the frock can be tucked and strapped as though it were made of crepe-de-chino, nad so thin that it gives no suggestion of stuffins or clumsiness,
Many of these cloth frocks- which by the way, are real frocks, and not half-hearted affairs like the old cost-frocks were-have lingerie collars and cuffs. Over the dress is worn a straight coat. narrow in outline, ending at the knee or above it, and made in a heavier tweed usually in the same) pattern as the dress.

FROCKS FOR THE NOT- SO-SLIM
One must face the fact that the new styles, generally speaking. are anything but flattering to the imperfect Agure.
•
Leust kind of all are they to the woman whose development be- low the waistline over-balances her other proportions.
It is possible, however, to adapt the lines of even these dresses to the exigencies of the "ample" hip- line. The sketch gives an iden of one very successful arrange- ment (not "niodification," please note) of the very latest modé which would make it a perfect choice for the woman with this type of figure.
Front and back are exactly alike except that the neckline is cut very high in front- new note-and the points of the side panels are shorter in front than behind.
The floating side draperies are arranged over the hips in lines. that tend to decrease the appar ent girth to an unbelievable ex tent.

HOSIERY
THE PROBLEM OF COLOUR CONSIDERED
to
Stockings are always a problem, when it comes to colour for they make more of a difference in smart- ness than any other one
thing, There is, as we know, a real fad for going without any stockings at all, and there are seamless stockings that give one the appearance of bare legs, their colours arranged match the various hues of sunburn or sun-tan, But there still remain the usual hosiery styles in spite of these vogues.

service weights are a part of the stocking wardrobe, these types of silk, and then there are lisle and cotton hose, and lisle and silken anklets, even wool in the latter group. For town wear there are light service weight stockings of pure thread silk, and they have reinforced greater tops and soles-they deserve their title. of "service."
