THE CHINA MAIL,
According to a statement attribut ed to an American business man dur ing a temporary stay in Bergen, an American salvago company with a share capital of $40,000,000 has en- tered into a contract in regard to the raising of no fewer than 53 ships which are sunk in the Baltic, al- though it is not stated with whom such a contract could possibly be entered into. Among the vessels it is proposed to raise are large Russian icebreaker which aank out- side Riga, and un American steamer which sunk off the coast of Finland with a cargo of copper.
The anivare steamer which will operate in the Baltic is stated to be the "Recourse," with a crew of 17 men, and the season is reckoned at five months per year.
