other sections of this community. One has only to leave Hong Kong to realise how many real friends one has made both in business and social circles.

Another advocate in the cause of concord between the diverse races in the Colony is the Hon. Dr. Kotewall, C.M.G, whose signal services have recently been recognised stil farther by his appointment as acting mem- ber of the Executive Council.
His presence too, is a testimony to his
bright and shining light, bat in all communities. There are others, too, in various linos, of
commerce who have kindly accepted my invitation to come here and renew former friend- ship. To one and all I have to tend- et my warmest thanks for honour- ing this gathering, trusting that the cordial spirit thus shown may re- dound to the mutual advantage and welfare of us all.
