Early in the adeption of the electric drive, the conditions in the preparation and process departments of a cannery were recognised as adverse to the plac ing of individual motors on each of the various machines. Considerable water, vinegar, brine, or some other Calves' Head & Fect liquid or pasty substance stantly being splashed about during the Mutton Chop normal operating period, and, in add- tion, it customary to wash the m chine with a water hose and then direct on the various parts to sterilize them and remove the wate. A number of canners now is selecting electrical equipment on 3 basis of flexibility and using it to the same ad- vantage that the meat packing, daiy, laundry and other industries are de- ing. In other words, the construction improved of electric motors has been that they can be depended upon to operate even under the most severe con- ditions, and the elimination of over- head line shafts and bells is now pric- tical as well as desirable.

There is much to be gained by the removal of overhead shafting and belts in a food plant because!
