Endurance Flight
After making a phenomenal mark in endurance fights, II. B.
Reinhart in undershirt) and Loren W. Mendell (leaning on 'plane
wing), the two California flyers. descended at Culver City, having
remained soft for approximately 2451⁄2 horrs, to receive the con-
gratulationsof an enthusiastic crowd. The plane and pilots might
have gone on indefinitely, but for the failure of their plane.

first-class aviatore, Ļ. W. Mendeli and R. 5. Reinhart. As the black plane swung around the field and at each refuelling, the nonchalant, light-hearted gestures of the flyers indicated their spirits apparently were no nearer the breaking point than the roaring cylinders of their 220-horsepower
motor. They broke the record.

flyers have been experimenting with motorless planes or glidera. Only recently has gliding been done
to any extent in America, although the Wright brothers first used a plane without a motor. - Now
at South Weelfleet, Mass., out amung the sand durca of Cape Cod, many youngsters and airmen
are learning this art of flying. Top, left, shows a glider wing mapped off the dunes by ita elastic
starter, while, below, left, are some of the students, assembling a sailing plane. The student, right, is getting some control instructions.
