PREPARING FOR THE RECENT

SUMMER HOLIDAYS

HALF YEAR'S OUTPUT ·

The main feature of interest in Clyde shipbuilding recently is the preparation for the annual holiday period which begins soon, writes the Clyde correspondent of the "Journal of Commerce" to hand.. Shipyards

and engineering works, will then be closed down for a period varying from ten days to a fortnight, and there is at present much activity in the winding up of auch work as is in the final stages completion.

In view of the July holidays the output of

in June is new tonnage in usually well above, the

average of the other months, and this year is no exception. With the exception of March, when an unusually large num ber of big ships were put into the water, the

new tonnage the output of last month was greater than for any of the previous montha of the half- | year. An output of 30 vessels of about 39,000 tons is a substantia! amount, even for the Clyde yards, and it shows no signs of falling off. This brings up the half-year's out- pat to 118 vessels of nearly 286,000
