BORDEAUX PORT:

PROGRAMME OF FUTURE DEVELOPMENT

THE CHINA MAIL,

The berthing facilities of Bordeaux are available at all times and at all tides to possels drawing approximately fift. and, under favourable tidal cir- cumstances, to vessels drawing 271t Great efforts are being made to render Bordeaux 4 first-class senport by utilising the advantages offered by the Gironde River and its tributary.

At Pauillac, on the Gironde River, about 37 miles fram Bordeaux, a float- ing dock of 25,000 metric tons capa- city is in operation. This dock, the maat important one in France, was fur- nished on the German reparations ac counts and, owing to the high perige- fion of its equipment, permite the execution of work in a minimum of time. To the facilities thus offered there soon will be added new decks of lesser tonnage and a floating work- shop.

At Ambes, at the function of the Garonne and Dordogne Rivers, about 13 files from Bordeaux, there are two.
