DISCONTINUANCE OF CABLE- LAYING OPERATIONS
The following notice was issued by Hon. Commdr. G. F. Hole, R.N., Har- bour Master, yesterday:---
"Notice to Mariners No. 46 of 1929 regarding cable-laying operations in the Cable Reserve between Hong Kong and Kowloon on Tuesday, 16th inst., is hereby cancelled."
The notice in question was to the effect that cabic-laying operations in in the Cable Reserve between Hang Kong and Kowloon would be carried out on Taesday, July 16, until further notice.

Hong Kong to Kaukong, a junk sprang à leak near the Kong Su bank at the mouth of the Pear! River above Tai Shan and sank within a few minutes, A launch which was at the time of the mishap towing the junk at once slipped tow and came alongside the sinking native craft and took every body off. Within 15 minutes the junk sank, all the cargo being washed away. The junk was salved and towed to Shakok the next morning. The damage to the junk is estimated at $2,000, cargo $14,000, and the junk's arma tment, clothing, etc., $600-a total loss
of $16,600.
