The Italian Government has created a special commission to examine the subventions granted to home shipping companies and to recommend, when necessary, increases which

Linke With Shipping Born near Falkirk, Stirlingshire, on January 8, 1850, and with family traditions so linked with shipping and the sea, it was but natural that young James Adamson should follow a call- ing concerned with abipbuilding and marine engineering, although his early schooling at Falkirk and Allos, and later at Dollar Academy, where he was 8 pupil from 1862 to 1866, and later still at Glasgow University, was of a character so liberal and varied as might have suggested many other callings.
His apprenticeship engineering was begun in 1866, when he served first for twelve months with a millwright engineer at Falkirk, and subsequently for four years with the engineering firm of Forrest and Bart, Glasgow.
