MR. CHAN YEE-HEE FRANCE AND HER DAY OF MOURNING
SENNING RAILWAYS PIONEER
DEAD
RETURNED U.S. EMIGRANT
Canton, Yesterday.
A report reaching here announces the death of Mr. Chan Yee-hee, founder and builder of the Sunning Railway, Toyshan, Kwangtung, at his home in Luke Chuen, on June 25.
The late Mr. Chan, 85 years old at his death, went a young man as an emigrant to America. He first joined the Great Northern Pacific Railroad as a labourer and then worked as foreman. His work with this line led him to thinking of constructing a line in his home dia trict, Sunning. He finally succeed- led after many years of toll and sacrifice and when the story of Chan Yee-hee is written some day he, and not many now erroneously listed, would be considered a "hero of the Chinese Revolution."-Nan Chung Kuo News Service.

PREMIER AND GOVERNMENT'S IDEALS
WOLK AND PEACE
London, Yesterday. "Work to our workpeople and peace to the world were Labour's immediate ideals," declared Mr. MacDonald at the Co-operative Banquet in London. Un- employment must be scientificially studied and removed by a great continu- ons programme.
As regards international peace, we are endeavouring to lay the founda- tions of what will be the finest and fair- est fabric that any Government ever built for the honour of Great Britain. We are not entering Peace Confer- ences without antficient preliminary preparation so as to avoid such failure as that of the 1927 Naval Disarma- ment Conference,
There are risks of peace and risks of war. I am barking on risks of peace. Mr. MacDonald asked the country to give the Labour Government its con=" fidence while it was struggling with the "ild beasts of Ephesus."--Reuter.
