TRICK CYCLING

STUDENTS FANCY STUNTS LEAD TO COURT

COSTLY "FACE WIPING"

.:

Traffic Sergeant Brown this morning charged a Chinese youth, who said that he was a student of the Cheuk Wan School, with riding a bicycle on the Shaukiwan-road in a manner which was dangerous to the public.

The Sergeant said that he saw the youth riding at a fast pace down the incline near the Quarry Bay School, with both his hands off the

handle bar. He first brushed his hair back with his hands and then "threw his arms about doing exer- cise" on the bicycle.

This was particularly dangerous because it was then 3.50 m, just about the time when the school children were returning to their homes,

Accused said that he took only one hand off the handle bar to wipe. his face. There was no danger because the road was empty, at the time.3**

The Magistrate said that there might be nothing in it if the accused had done his trick cycling in an empty road, but Shaukiwan-road could not be called empty with traffic liable to appear on it at any time. Also, when the trick was tried whilst going down hill with s school near by, accused was not only endangering his own life but the life of pedestrians also.

A fine of $10 or 14 days jail was Imposed.
