When a new baby comes along the parents boast, "He is better tempered. The ex-baby sees red, and unless handled carefully becomes one of the Ishmaels of life.
One finds on investigation that the new baby has taken the ex-baby's place in the sun and even in his cot. No wonder the new baby has been known to be killed by the ex-baby.
The new baby, should be look bed forward to as belonging just as much to the ex-baby, as to his parents. I can imagine no greater misery than that of be Ing sent away, perhaps for the first time, from one's mother, and to come back and find her absorbed In a rival.

TRYING DILEMMA
GERMAN WOMAN TAKES PLUNGE OVERBOARD
WORRIED OVER MOTHER
The "Osaka Mainichi" says:- Having been in a trying dilemma whether to go back to her sick mother in Berlin or stick to her Japanese husband, a German" (wo-] man who married a Japanese and who arrived at Yokohama on May 1 plunged overboard from the C.P.S. "Empress of Asia" when the steamer was stopping outside the] port undergoing quarantine, but was saved by the "Koshi Maru," a launch owned by Helm Brothers, Led.
She is the wife of Mr. Julehi Tanaka, son of Mr. Eihachiro Tanaka, president of the Dai Nip- pon Synthetic Dye-Stuff Manufac turing. Company. Mr Tanaka married her during his stay in Ger many and has brought her home.
The mother of the German (wife) was sick at the time of the couple's departure for Japan; and during a long voyage which was the first experience for the wife, she! became more and more worried over her mother's condition, but still she did not want to separate from her newly married husband
This Internal struggle within herself drove her to that extremity, it is believed.
