"Don't let us, to whatever party we belang, go forward to the next General Election like a cheapjack at a fair and announce that we have got some patent remedy which will sweep unemployment away without question or delay,”
The "Daily Telegraph," in an editorial, says it rarely happens in our public life that a politician finda himself in a position so unfortun- ate as Sir John Simon is placed by the letter. "Such words, so pre- cise, ao destructive in their applica tion to Mr. Lloyd George's vote. catching nostrum, could hardly have been bettered by an opponent, it adds.
"Dreary Hopelessness"
Sir John Simon, in a speech at the National Liberal Club, declared that India could be kept in cold storage" for five weeks.
He pro mised Mr. Lloyd George that he. would do his best in the election.
Mr. Lloyd George's unemploy ment proposals, in their crispness and confidence, were a refreshing contrast to the dreary hopelessnedz of Government and the vague, tepid platitudes of the Labour Party
