MEETING OF ASSOCIATION
- COUNCIL
At a meeting of the Football Association Council last night the Chairman indicated that $787.38 had been donated to the Miners' Fund, this amount. it was agreed, should be taken from the Inter- port account.
It was decided to hold the un- nual general meeting on June 28. Those present were Mr. H Hall (Chairman), Mr. W. E. Hollands (Secretary), Mr. G. T. May (Trea- surer), Messrs. Lee, J. Black, F. Smith, R. Ormiston, Lieut. George, Commander Bryon, and another naval, representative.
ACQUITTED CONSTABLE CHARGED WITH BRIBERY
HIS STORY BELIEVED
Wong Kam-sing, the constable of the Hawkers' Department of the Police, who is charged with receiving bribes from hawkers was discharged by Mr. E. W. Hamilton, at the Central Magis- tracy, this morning.
The defendant swore that he had not been concerned with the "Squeeze Ring."
His Worship decided to believe his story, remarking that in any ease he could not convict the ac- cused on evidence given by per- sons who had been his Accom- plices, as the witnesses in their own evidence showed themselves to be.
M. LENGLEN DEAD
ONE OF THE EARLY TENNIS
ENTHUSIASTS
M. Lenglen, the father of Su- zanne, died recently at Nice, which was his home. M. Charles Lenglen was among the early French en- thusiasts for lawn tennis and a first class judge of the game. It may he said that he educated his daughter to be champion.
Although the story of his train- ing her to place a ball on a two franc piece on the other side of the net is a myth, there is no doubt that she owed much to his coaching as well as to his advice on her career in general. He lived at one time in Passy. Paris, and it was in the garden of his house that in June, 1910, he gave the eleven-year-old Suzanne her first lesson.

His Worship enquired if there had been any injury sustained by any of the parties.
Inspector Bloor answered in the negative.
The quarrel had, the prosecu- fion officer said, been over water. The three coolies were employed to carry water and had squabbled over a bucket.
Inspector Bloor said, in answer to the Magistrate, that he did not wish to press the charge.
In view of this the accused were cautioned by the Magistrate against reoccurrence of the trou- ble.
THANKS TO “AUDAX”
APPRECIATIVE LETTER FROM THE KING
TRIBUTE TO HOSPITALS
London, Yesterday. The following letter has been addressed by Lord Stamfordham, the King's Private Secretary to "Audax," the donor of the gift of 100,000 guineas to the Thank-. offering for the King's recovery:
"Dear Audax, The proposal to Express your gratitude for the King's recovery in the noble and generous manner indicated in your letter is welcomed with feelings of deep appreciation by His Majesty. One hundred thou- sand guineas will indeed find a splendid nucleus to the appeal made by the King Edward's Hos- pital Fund for London and the King knows by experience that the whole amount of this thank- offering wil be wisely and effec- tively administered by the coun- eil. For almost 30 years His Majesty has taken the deepest in- terest in the fund, of which he was President for some nine years and he emphasises what hospitals of London owe to its admirable work and administration. More- over, owing to his long and seri- Theatre; ous illness the King recognises his debt of gratitude to doctors. surgeons, and nurses and that it is in the great hospitals that both medical science has develop- ed and the nursing profession has been trained to its present stand- ard of excellence-British Wire- less Service.
