RECENT JUDGMENT Seafarers and others connected with shipping manifested great interest in the considered judgment delivered by the Liverpool stipendiary, magistrate (Mr. Stuart Deacon) in a case in which a marine fireman named Wil- liam Dodd claimed from a Liverpool steamship company the return of 108, balance of wages which he alleged had been paid to the National Union of Seamen against his wish.

His Worship said he had given the case as full consideration as he could, and he proposed to give a verbal judg ment in place of a written one. The claim was made by William Dodd, ho was a fireman on defendants' ves
