Accused's excuse was that a part of the bar was sticking out of the verandah and obstract-; ed his passage. He was in the act! of pushing it in when the post- mau seized him and accused him of theft,

Particulars of the affair are rot yet available, but it is understood that three robbers were concern- ed in the affair, one of them being armed with a dagger.
They ransacked the place the roughly and got away with a quantity of money, clothing and jewellery the value of which has hot yet been ascertained.
