King's Collage is fortunate în having a vary efficient staff; and I note with much interest that all the Chinese members of the staff, en- gaged in t.aching English, have been locally trained, aix at the Hong Kong University and eight at the Technical Institute. Attendance
The attendance has been good, and except in cases of sickness, ap. plications for leave for trivial rea- sers have been few.
The school is hampered, as indeed are most of our schools,--and not only schools in this Colony-by lack of sufficiently large playing fields. Our Staff numbered 35 Teachers: 3 European masters, 10 European lady teachers, 2 Chinese lady teachers, 6 Local University graduates, 6 Technical Institute trained masters, 7 Vernacular mas tér, 1 part time Drill Instructor.
The gymnasium has been in use since September, when Mr. Mauricio for physical drill in the afternoons was appointed as part-time drill teacher, but with the arrival of "fixed" apparatus which is in transit, the appointment of a "fuil time" physical instructer becomes a matter for serious consideration. Under present arrangements, only the divisions of the three lowest classes have opportunities for drill -one weekly lesson of half an hour.
The cinema projecting room still lacks its machine, but it is expected that even this doficiency will be made good at no distant dute.

The year is unprecedented for the amount of sickness which has been prevalent amongst the staff. On joccasions as many as five teachers
have been
on the sick list at one time.
Absence of members of the staff on account of sickness, coupled with the fact that the Department bas -no "supply" or "supernumerary teachers," makes the smooth work ing of a large college extremely difficult.
It is with the deepest regret that Mr. Li Wing-in, one of our senior we record the death during July off vernacular masters.
Mra. Morris went home on sick leave in May, and Mr. T. J. Price, formerly of St. Stephen's College, joined the staff in September. Mr. Yau Fung-hon resigned in July.

Your embulance division is very efficient and very energetic, and I am gratified to learn that, during the recent campaign against amall- pox, the boys of this division have vaccinated no fewer than 27,688 Chinese. I could wish that the Scout movement among the juniors had been as successful in King's College, and I was sorry to hear from you, Mr. Head Master, that your troop of Boy Scouts had dwindled in num- bers. I attach the greatest import- ance to Scouting as a discipline for boys. It is an education of the open air and the open country, which brings freshness and vigour into every boy's life, and I hope that in future the school will associate self enthusiastically with this move- ment.

Old Boys' Association A notable feature of King's Col lege is the great personal interest | taken in it by the boys' parents, who responded in large numbers to the Invitation which you. Mr. Hend Master, extended to them to ace the pupils actually at work. This inter- est and the resulting cordial rela- tionship between staff and parents is an important factor in the suc- cessful working of the school and should be encouraged in every way.
In this connection, may I suggest that the time bas now come when former pupils of this school might give effective expression to their abiding Interest in it by farming themselves into an Old Boys' Aaro- clation? The Salyingpun School, which has developed into King's Col- lege, was opened in 1879 and since ite opening 4,856 pupile have passed: through the school, whilst there are. now nearly 900 boys' actually in at- tendance. There is, thorefors, abundant material from which an Old Boys' Association could be formed. Such an Association, has been of great value to Queen's Col lege, and I have no doubt that it would prove to be squally valuable to King's College.

During the mid-summer holidays, with the approval of the Director of Education, summer classes met: certain class rooms were available for private study;, the library for reading and reference: the play- ground for gaines, and the pool for swimming concessions which were greatly appreciated and fully justi- fied.
Several of the Technical Institute classes wore transferred here early in the year.
The College Ambulance Division flourishes and continues to do good work, but the Troop of Boys Scouts has dwindled in numbers.
An innovation to which I attach on November 29, when parents and importance was our "Visiting Day" guardians were invited to be present and see the classes at work. About 200 parents avalled themselves of this opportunity to familiarise themselves with the College, and to: establish mutual understanding and personal acquaintance. This year I sincerely hope that the number of visitors will increase to over 1,000.
