DISCUSSED AT COUNCIL MEETING

SHIELD. COMPETITION

The draw for the second round of the soccer Shield Competition, made at a H. K. Football Associa- tion council meeting last evening, resulted as follows:-

Senior Division

Queen's v. RA.. at Soakumpoo. China A.A. v. Kowloon, at Club, S. China v. Navy, at Caroline Hill. Recreio v. Police, at Klug's Park.

K.O.S.B. v. R.A.F, at Kawlpon. It was subsequently pointed out that the Queen's Regiment would not be present in the Colony on the date fixed, they being relieved by the Somerset Regiment. The dates, it is understood, will be made over to the latter Regiment.

FIRST CENTURY.

HOBBS SHINES AT ADELAIDE

Adelaide, Yesterday. In a match hers the M.C.C. scored | 392 (Sutcliffe 122, Hobbs 75, Hendren 90; Carlton five for 64) and 307 for five wickets declared.

Hobbs, in the second innings, got his first century of the present tour, scoring 101. Jardine made 114.

South Australia were dismissed for 178 (V. Richardson 87; White seven for 66) and 75 for one wicket. Rain then came on and the match was therefore left, drawn.-Reuter.

Now York. The New York police, under the new Commissioner, Mr. Grover Whalen, have been call ed upon to solve what is considered one of the moat fantastle murder mysteries which has confronted the department for years.

The victim, Henry Gaw, a night watchman at the laboratory of Guggenheim Brothers, was appar ently forced to drink coffee into which the murderer had poured a large quantity of cyanide of potassium.

Richmond's Ice Rink Club, which was opened during the mail week, and can accommodate 1,000 skaters on the ice together, is the world's largest indoor rink. It is to be open to the public on several even Ings a week, when the maximum charge will be five shilinga.

The skating surface is 286 feet long and 85 feet wide. Between 2,600 and 3,000 spectators can also

be accommodated.

The giant petition organised by the Watford Football Supporters' Club, and signed by 15,000 people, has suffered the same fato as its predecesior.

The Football Association declines to reconsider the case of Frank Barson, the Watford international centre half, who was suspended to the end of the season for miscon- duct in the Watford v. Fulham match last September.

Mr. F. J. Wall, secretary of the Football Association, said that the following answer had been sent to to a letter they wrote to the Foot- the Supporters' Club with reference ball Association on Dec. 5:-
