PROOF OF PROGRESS. The leading place of business in Taipingfu, on the Upper West River, in Kwangsi, through which Dr. A. Cannon and Mrs. Cannon of Hong Kong passed in their travels. The house in Chinese-built. Members of the white race are rare sights here. Not far away from Taipingfu, an A.P.C. man was killed a few year's go.-(Strict copyright).

MACAO FAIR-The main entrance to the Macao Charity and Commercial Fair, which proved a great success-(Po Man Lau).
WHERE PIRATES FOUND SHELTER. Banks of the Upper West River, between Lungchow and Talpingfu, where the water is only accessible to small craft. The banke range from 500 to 800 feet high. In caves near the river level (which can be seen on close inspection), pirates used to find shelter until quite recently when they were dislodged by the Kwangsi Govern ment (Etrict copyright).
