`DEATH SENTENCE

“ANKING" PIRACY CẮSE AT .SESSIONS

CHIEF JUSTICE'S ADVANCE,

Sentence of death was passed by the Chief Justice (Sir Henry Golian, C.B.E., K.C.) on Yuen Ping- kwan at the close of the December. Criminal Session at the Supreme Court on Monday, 1

Accused was found guilty by the jury of piracy with violence (statu- tory piracy) of the British, es "Anking."

His Lordship expressed himself as being in full accord with the verdict, and also referred to the ship's arms, paying that pirates would naturally make a concerted attack when the officers were acnt- tered about, and had to go to their cabins get their firearms. Some other means should be devised for storing the weapons, he observed.

Identification.

This piracy occurred on Sept. 28, resulting in the Chief Ofteer (Mr. D. C. Jones), the Chief Engineer (Mr. H. Thomson) and a Chinese quartermaster being killed, and the master (Capt. C. E. Plunkett-Cole) and others being wounded.

Prisoner, was arrested by chance
