The electrical installations were maintained in good order. 1,631 fans and 323 radiators were cleaned and overhauled. Forty-five fans and motors were completely rewound and thirty-one radiators were fitted with new elements. Work was carried out in connection with additions and alterations to thirty-one buildings on 119 light and power points. Typhoon lanterns at Lyeemun, Gough Hill, Harbour Office, Waglan and Gap Rock Lighthouses were maintained in good order. Electrical installations in ninety-two Government buildings were tested and repaired and 120 inventories of electrical fittings issued. Fire alarm bells and lightning conductor systems in Government buildings were also maintained in a satisfactory manner. Government telephone installed in the Furniture Store Office. One Additions and alterations were carried out to five markets.

Improvements to Buildings:-The principal improvements carried out under this heading were as follows:-Central Police Station-concrete sunshades and alterations to sashes, Queen's College-reconstructed benches, etc., in laboratory and enclosed verandah to form Common Room, Central Fire Station-concrete shelter for forge and alterations to condemned store, Post Office Building-alterations for Radio Store and Workshop, Victoria Gaol-extension to Garage, Queen's College-surfacing to playground, Peak School-sashes to enclose corridor, Peak Chair Coolie Quarters-doors to two entrances, Victoria Hospital-partitions, 153 The Peak-formed doorway and erected wall, 372 The Peak-renewed wire netting boundary fence, Aberdeen Police Station-installed new water closets and windows, Aberdeen Harbour Office-alterations to form fire station, Whitfield Market-killing room and kitchen, Central Medical Store-alterations, Wanchai Depot-roof lights to garage, Leighton Hill Quarters-alterations and additions, Rutter Street Latrine-renewed doors, Tsan Yuk Hospital-partitions to first floor verandah, constructed areas and fixed windows, Bacteriological Institute-reconstructed hearths, Government Civil Hospital cooking "A" Block-enclosed verandah to X Ray Department, Government Civil Hospital "B" Block-expanded metal guards to prison wards.

48. Roads and Bridges in City (Maintenance and Improvements):-The surfaces of approximately seventy-one miles of roads were generally maintained in a satisfactory manner. Hospital Road (Bonham Road to Eastern Street) was regraded and widened and a footpath formed on the northside of the road.
