New tonnage is to be added to the Canada Staumship Lines fleet, Two new cargo ships are to be built, one at Midland, Ontario, by the Mand Shipbuilding Company and one at Lauzon, Quebec by the Davie Shipbuilding and Repairing Company according to the an- nouncement made by Mr. T. R. Enderby, general manager of Canada Steamship Lines, Limited.
The ship to be built by the Davie
1920, and the keel blocks are ́al- rendy in place. This vessel will be an addition to the Hamilton- Toronto-Montreal express, service, and will be of the City type, similar to the "City of Hamilton," the "City of Kingston, and the "City of Montreal," which now operate be- tween these parts, She will be of 1,800 gross tons, which will make her slightly larger than the general type. She will be capable of 12 'knots' loaded. The dimensions, ure: -length 242ft. between "perpendi- culars, 40ft, beain and 24ft. mould- Led depth.
The other abfp to be built is of the Northwest freighter type, her length will be. 250ft. b.p., beam! 42ft. 9 ins. and depth 26ft. 6 ins," She will be similar to the steamer “Lethbridge,” with a gross ton nagé of 2,380 tons and a loaded speed of 12 knots. This vessel is to be started at once and ready. for service by May.1, 1929. She will incorporate all the lateat appliances! for loading and unloading, and her run will be from Montreal to Fort "William in the general package
freight service.
Both companies building these ships are subsidiaries of Canada Steamship Lines.
