SUBMARINE ANALOGY
What are the lessons that will bo drawn from the crossing of the Atlantic by the "Grať Zeppelin," and who will state them? The dove- lopment of the airship has been watched with interest by the whole of the educated world, and one can say with fascination also, for it has been the dream and ambition of men for centuries to float and fly above the earth. But can it be

are likely to reach'a solution of the problem along the present-day de- sign of airship (the name “ship” somehow oflends; it seems a libel on our conception of a ship).
It is true that ""Zeppelins" have made long journeys. have carried considerable, though not profitable, cargoes, in which category we will include passengers, and have suc cessfully weathered storms. But is that accomplishment sufficient to justify u'statement that the "Zeppe fin" will ever become a reliable and commercially profitable vehicle of transport. The watchword, of the shipowner, especially in theas days of rapid communication by cable and wireless, is and ever will | be "reliability," with its corollaries "safety" and "prompt despatch and delivery." Can these be securred by the "Zeppelin"?
