I think it is one of those unfortunate tragedies which, as far as one can say, no one could guard against. The man is an old soldier who has been ill and, I think, suffering from Illness în consequence of his military ser vice.
The new work he obtained atį Minehend seems to have preyed on his mind, and though there was nothing as far as one could see to worry him, one morning. according to the evidence, hig wife and daughter were found shot in the head, obviously In their sleep.
The question whether he was in a responsible state of mind is with which the Grand not one Jury have to deal. It is a matter that we shall have to try before the petty jury.

The death has occurred at the General Hospital, Singapore, of Mr. S. Ramalingam, chief clerk, Senior District Engineer's Office FM.S. Railways, Johore Bahru. The remains were removed the fol- |lowing morning to Johore Bahru where the cremation took place In the presence of a large gathering of relations and friends. Mr. Ra- malingam counted about 20 years
