GOODWILL
THE CHINA MAIL,
FOREMEN ENGINEERS
INDUSTRY
INDO-CHINA
The task of finding a scheme STEAM NAVIGATION CO., LTD.
for the furtherance of goodwill
in industry toward which the Glasgow and West of Scotland Association of Foremen En- gineers and Draughtsmen are devoting their energies was the subject of an address to the members at the annual meeting of the association in the Institute of Engineers and Shipbuilders, Glasgow.
The past president, Mr. James Vance," explained how, a year ago, the association took up the subject and of the promotion of a prize essay scheme, the result of which was recently announced. At the present moment, he said, the committee were engaged in examining the material contained in the 94 essay papers received, and a report would be issued in due course. He appealed for the close co-operation of the mem- hers in the development of the scheme for goodwill in industry, as the question affected, cach member as an individual. He was sure that an association like theirs, which was so fully con- versant with workshop "condi- tions, could draw up a scheme which would commend itself to industry as being something that would tend to promote better feeling among those engaged and make progress towards solving some of the most difficult pro- blems with which industry was faced to-day,
The annual report of the asso- ciation, which was submitted by the secretary, Mr. T. M'Guire, and adopted, stated that the membership had increased dur- ing the year to its present dimensions of 213 honorary life members, 47 honorary annual and 326 ordinary members, members. The year had been one of the most active in the history of the association, not only with monthly lectures, visits to works, and social functions, but on account of the efforts of the Committee on Goodwill ́in Industry.
