Ernst Lubitsch was born in Berlin on January 28, 1892. He as six years old when he first wanted to become an actor but his father had different notions af that time-namely that he should go to school and make his way in the commercial world. The elder Lubitsch was a practical and determined man so that for three years after Ernst had finished schooling he worked as a clerk in his father's clothing store.
He refused to forsake his dream of a stage career and al though a clerk by day he was a student of drama by night. The first week he was at work he went
In 1913 Lubitsch did his first picture, appearing in a comedy role which made an immediate hit Shortly afterwards he left the stage entirely and became a screen comedy star. In "The Perfumed Trap," special production with an all-star cast including Clive Brook, Mary Brian, William Powell, Olga Baclanova, Fred Kohler and Jack Luden, Oliver will take the role of a detective. Victor Schert. zinger is directing. It isn't a long role and that is part of the secret jof the enormous number of pic- tures Oliver has played in. In many of them he takes small but important parts which require only a day or two and then he goes to work on another picture.
For 12 years now Oliver has been under verbal contract to the Paramount Famous Lasky Cor poration. His unique contract calls only for two weeks notice from either party for termination.. That notice has never been given and Oliver has kept right on appearing in picture after pic- ture:
