THE GREAT CHURCH CONGRESS was opened at Cheltenham, on October 2, by the Rt. Rev. A. C. Headlam, Bishop of Glouces- ter, who is President of this year's Congress. A large crowd assembled to watch the procession of the 2,200 delegates through the streets. Dr.. Deissmann, (L), of Berlin, and (R) Bishop Amundsen, of Denmark, in the procession.—(Sport and General).
LONDON'S GREAT MUSICAL FESTIVAL The Annual National Band Festival was held at the Crystal Palace. Sept. 29. 140 bands, with 3,600 bandsmen took part in the festival, which is, very popular-bandsmert from all parts of England, taking part in the competitions. Among the competitors are colliers, millers, tramwaymen, etc. The championship and 1,000 guineas trophy was, won this year by "Black Dyke Mills," a Yorkshire combination whose playing was magnificent.-(Sports and General.)
THE PRIMATE'S GOOD-BYE. The Most Rev. Randall: Davidson, the retiring Archbishop of Canterbury, and Mrs. Davidson held a special reception at Lambeth Palace, London, . on Oct. 3, to enable them to bid a personal farewell to all the clergy and churchwardens in the Diocese of Canterbury. OPENING OF THE WORLD FUEL CONFERENCE AT THE IMPERIAL INSTITUTE, SOUTH KENSINGTON, LONDON.-- Forty-seven countries have sent delegates to the conference which opened on Sept. 24 and lasted a fortnight. In his opening address, Sir Robert Horne said: "The modern prosperity of Great Britain was created by ecal; and by coal it will be saved; but it will only be by adopting improved and more economical methods of using it.” Lord Reading, the President (R) leaving the conference with Sir Robert Horne.-(Sport and General).
