Chiang Kai-shek's Coalition, and only a moderately satisfactory one at that, seems to be the most apt description of the now govern ment that is now functioning, at Nanking. On the surface, the machinery appears to be running smoothly. Internally, however, several parts' need changing.
The most significant factor is that Marshal Chiang Kai-shek has had to dispense with the services of one or two of the old guard of the Nationalist Party-men whose personal disinterestedness has never been open to doubt-and he has also had to exclude from the highest offices at least two of his own immediate, and very capable, partisans,
